"Mental pain is less dramatic than physical pain, but it is more common and also harder to bear." —C Lewis.
A lot of things are happening in our lives lately and are bringing drastic changes that we were never ready for. With this Covid-19 pandemic upon us one cannot help but wonder if things are ever going to get back to normal, if ever there is going to be a “normal”. Questions regarding our future clouds our minds. When all this is over will I still have a job? Where will my next meal come from if I do not get paid? How will I pay my rentals? The uncertainty of life and the overthinking leads one to suffer from some form of mental breakdown. We are all suffering, but it is harder on some people than it is on others. How then do you tell that you or your loved one is going through a mental break down? I am going to highlight just a few mental health problems that we need to be aware of during this time of distress.
Anger
We all get angry at one point or another, this is just one inevitable emotion because we are human. However, anger becomes a problem when it is out of control and harms you or the people that are around you.
Depression
There are times in our lives where we feel low, sad or miserable about how things seem to be going in our lives. These feelings usually do not stay for long. It becomes a problem if the feeling of sadness keeps on recurring. That would mean you are experiencing depression.
Sleeping problems Most of us if not all of us have trouble sleeping at one time or another. It is usually due to stress, illness or something that interrupts your daily normal life. It is normal to have challenges in sleeping; however, it is not normal to regularly have problems getting to sleep at night, wake up feeling exhausted or feeling sleepy during the day. If you realize that your sleep pattern interferes with your daily life, then you might be experiencing a sleeping disorder.
A prayer in times of distress Our kind and loving father, I pray for your people who are faced with several challenges because of the Covid-19 pandemic to a point of having a mental breakdown. Heal their hearts, Oh Lord and provide for their needs. I pray in Jesus mighty name, Amen!
Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares. —1 Peter 5:7.
